|
The Code 128 Font Advantage Package includes over 18 Code 128 fonts in
six (6) font formats, with the rights to use any of IDAutomation's font
tools, macros and source code as necessary for application integration.
Features and details of the package are as follows:
- Font Tools and IDAutomation Fontware
Included - For easy integration into applications, IDAutomation
provides several
font tools that are free to use with IDAutomation fonts. The font
tools automatically format the start, stop and check characters to the
barcode font. When it is necessary to create a single barcode, IDAutomation
recommends using the
Online Font Encoder.
The following are a few tools available:

- Patent Pending Technology - The fonts in this package include
new patent pending technology which allows for extremely high quality
printing of Code-128 symbols.
- GS1-128 (UCC/EAN-128) Support - When using Code 128 for
GS1-128
(formerly
UCC-128
or
EAN-128),
every barcode must begin with a Start C character followed by a (fnc1)
"function code one" character. The Code128() function in IDAutomation's
font tools provides an automated method for
doing this by inserting an ASCII202 character for each AI represented.
Additionally, when printed at 12 points the IDAutomationC128M font is
specifically designed for GS1 barcodes where a size of 1/2 inch tall
and an X dimension of 10 mils is required. GS1-128 is primarily used
for distribution applications and serialized carton tracking.
- Six (6) Different Heights Provided - The Code 128 barcode
fonts are scaleable and should be printed at the correct font size to
suit the application and scanning equipment. In addition to using the
point size to set the font width, six (6) versions of the Code 128 barcode
fonts are provided to support
different height requirements.
- Human Readable Versions - Fonts with text interpretations
are also provided for character sets B and C in the licensed version.
Each of these is also supplied in six (6) different heights for a total
of 18 different Code 128 fonts.
- Industry Standards - IDAutomation's Code 128 barcode fonts
were created directly from AIM and ISO standards, and have been in use
since 1998.
- Low Resolution Printer Support - IDAutomation's Code128 Fonts
are designed to print precisely on 203 DPI thermal printers and 300
DPI printers in addition to higher resolution printers. When printing
at 203 DPI, the point size chosen should be a multiple of 6. When printing
at 300 DPI, the point size chosen should be a multiple of 4.
| "We
picked your package because of the detailed description
of product capabilities and ease of use. Our data transfer
is streamlined for both e-traffic and paper customers. The
software package came with clear instructions and works
seamlessly in the background." - Michael Lott, Isoforensics
Inc., Bountiful, UT |
- USPS Support - When printed at 16 points, the IDAutomationC128L
font will produce the exact dimensions for GS1 (EAN128) required by
the
USPS
special services, which is a height of .75" and an X dimension of
.013".
- Canada Post Support - When printed at 21 points, the IDAutomationC128L
font will produce the dimensions required by the CANADA POST, which
is a height of 1" and an X dimension of .017".
- Easy Function Encoding Capability - IDAutomation fonts provide
easy methods of
encoding
functions such as returns and tabs in the barcode.
- Embeddable Functionality - The fonts included with the Developer
License allow embedding into PDFs, Word documents and other files that
support embedding so those who do not have the fonts installed may still
generate and print the barcode.
- Multiple Language and Locale Support
- In the event the system regional setting is not set to "English" or
the 1252 Latin-1 codepage, the fonts support the following additional
code pages in Windows: 1250 European, 1251 Cyrillic, 1253 Greek, 1254
Turkish, 1255 Hebrew and 1256 Arabic. To obtain a font that will work
in any operating system, code page and locale, IDAutomation
offers the Universal
Barcode Font Advantage™, which creates Code 128 and many other barcode
types with a single font.
- Multiple Formats Provided - When a license for the font is
purchased, all
versions specified below are provided:
- TrueType fonts are supplied in PC and Macintosh format. The
TrueType TTF fonts are compatible with Macintosh OS X and all versions
of Microsoft Windows, including
Pocket
PC. Macintosh formatted MTT TrueType fonts are compatible with
Macintosh System 7.1 and above.
- OpenType OTF fonts with PostScript outlines are provided. These
are compatible with Windows®, Macintosh OS X and other systems supporting
the OpenType format.
- PostScript Type 1 fonts are supplied in binary, ASCII and Macintosh
versions.
- Also included in this package are PCL laserjet soft fonts in
8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 points.
- The Developer License grants the right to convert IDAutomation's
fonts to other formats as necessary including TrueDoc and OpenType.

Unix and other operating systems, please visit IDAutomation's

Code 128
Symbology Overview
|
Code
128 is a
high-density symbology that encodes numbers, symbols, uppercase and
lowercase text as well as functions such as returns and tabs. It is the
barcode type used for many standards including
GS1-128,
GTIN,
UCC-128, ISBT-128, SISAC, SICI, ICCBBA,
EAN-128,
EAN-14, SSCC-18 and SCC-14. All Code 128 barcodes require a start character,
checksum character, and a stop character. Due to the required calculation
of a checksum, implementation of Code128 as a barcode font may be difficult
without IDAutomation's Font Tools. If an
easier-to-use barcode font is preferred and Code 128 is not required, consider
IDAutomation's Code
39 barcode font, which does not require checksums to be calculated.
IDAutomation also provides many
barcode components
that often provide an easier implementation due to their ability to automatically
calculate the checksum and completely format the barcode.
